Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has signed a long term contract with the Premier League side.

According to a statement on the club’s official website, the new deal will keep the 31-year-old central midfielder at the club until the summer of 2025.

Henderson has been a key player for Jurgen Klopp over the last few seasons and the fans will be delighted with the club’s decision to tie him down to a long term deal.

Since joining the club from Sunderland, the midfielder has established himself as a key player and he has helped the Reds win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Earlier this summer the midfielder was linked with a move away from Liverpool and the likes of Atletico Madrid were mentioned as a potential destination.

Having signed his new contract with the Reds, Henderson revealed that he is delighted with the club’s show of faith in him and he also thanked the fans for their support.

The midfielder has promised to work hard and deliver more success for Liverpool in the coming seasons.

He said: “I’m obviously very honoured and proud to continue the journey I’ve already been on here.

“It’s amazing to finally get it done and just concentrate on looking forward and what the future may hold.

“I’m in a different place of course, as a player and as a person, from when I first walked in. I’ve learned and grown a lot over my time here, and I’ve got to thank a lot of people for that.

“I’ve loved every minute of it, even when I look back at the tough times, I was still enjoying being a part of this football club. The longer I can do that, the better for me really. I want to be here as long as possible, I’ve always said that.

“To continue this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.”

Liverpool have done well to tie down the spine of their squad to long term contracts and the likes of Trent Alexander Arnold, Alisson Becker, Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho have all signed new deals in recent weeks.
