Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur set to battle it out for Milan Skriniar

Milan Skriniar-Inter Milan

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur  are looking to improve their defensive options during the summer transfer window and the two London clubs have identified Milan Skriniar as a potential target.

The 27-year-old Slovakian defender has been exceptional for Inter Milan since joining the club and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for both Premier League clubs.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has worked with the 27-year-old during their time together at Inter Milan and it is no surprise that he wants to sign the Slovakian for Tottenham.

The Londoners signed a quality centre back in Cristian Romero last season and they will need to bring in a top-class partner for the Argentine international.

Skriniar has the potential to develop into a world-class player and he would be an exceptional long term acquisition for any Premier League club.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham have managed to qualify for the Champions League and it’ll be interesting to see where Skriniar ends up this summer.

The two clubs are on a relatively similar financial footing after the exit of Roman Abramovich and the presence of Antonio Conte at the helm could give Tottenham an edge in the transfer chase.

Skriniar has worked with the Italian manager in the past and he should be able to fit in at Spurs quickly and make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be without the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen next season and the Blues are in desperate need of quality centre backs. Missing out on a player like Skriniar could be a devastating blow for them and it remains to be seen whether the Blues can convince the Slovakian to snub the opportunity to join Tottenham and join them instead.
