Chelsea Transfer News: Roman Abramovich approves big-money move for 27-goal star

Stamford Bridge 2 Chelsea - Merson Chelsea will challenge Liverpool for Premier League title

Chelsea are expected to make a big-money move for the Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland at the end of this season.

According to reports, the club’s owner Roman Abramovich has now given the Blues the green light to sign the Norwegian striker.

Haaland is one of the best strikers on the planet right now and he could prove to be a sensational addition to Thomas Tuchel’s attack. He has scored 27 goals in 25 games so far this season.

The Blues have an impressive midfield at their disposal but they are severely lacking in a reliable goal scorer.

Timo Werner was brought in to solve their goalscoring problems but the German has failed to live up to the expectations so far.

He has improved since the arrival of Tuchel but he is clearly not the poacher Chelsea were looking for. The former Leipzig attacker is best suited to a left forward role and the Blues need someone who can spearhead their attack next season.

Haaland is a traditional number #9 who will add pace, power and goals to the side.

Furthermore, he is only 20 years old and his best years are ahead of him. Even if Chelsea have to pay a club-record fee for him the Norwegian has the potential and the time to justify the price tag.

Haaland has been one of the best strikers in the world over the past year and only Robert Lewandowski has had a better goalscoring record since Haaland’s move to Borussia Dortmund.

It will be interesting to see if the German outfit are willing to sell the player this summer.

Haaland has a £68 million release clause but it can only be activated in the summer of 2022. Chelsea might have to pay over the odds to bring his signing forward and convinced the Germans to part with their prized asset.
