Former Manchester United attacker and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered a lucrative deal to play in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League following the termination of his contract at Manchester United.
The 37-year-old left Old Trafford by mutual consent early this week after the club terminated his contract following his controversial interview with TalkTv host Piers Morgan.
With his status as a free agent now confirmed, Ronaldo can sign for any club he chooses. According to reports by the Telegraph via Sportsmail, he has been offered a huge deal to join the Saudi Arabian Pro League.
Ronaldo initially rejected joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal after the Saudi side offered him a contract worth £210million for two seasons. Ronaldo refused to join the club because he wanted to continue playing football at the highest level.
However, the league will reportedly return again to test Ronaldo’s resolve with more financial incentives. The Gulf nation are considering a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup and feels Ronaldo’s presence in the Middle East could help their campaign.
Mega-rich Premier League side Newcastle United are also thought to be interested in signing Ronaldo after he left Old Trafford.
According to the Spanish publication Marca, the Magpies are one of the few clubs that can afford Ronaldo’s high wage demands in the Premier League.
The Premier League side are not playing in the Champions League this season but will offer a more competitive option for Ronaldo, who will prefer to remain in a competitive league to keep his stock high.
