Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 21-year-old was on loan at Norwich City last year, and he impressed during his 24 appearances with the relegated outfit.

Apparently,  Everton are now keen on signing the player, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are willing to sanction his departure. The Toffees are keeping tabs on Conor Gallagher as well.

The Scotland international is highly rated at the London club, and he has a massive future ahead of himself. But he needs to play regularly to continue his development and fulfil his potential.

A loan move this summer would be ideal for Gilmour, especially with the likes of Jorginho, Kovacic, Kante and Loftus-Cheek ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The Toffees need to add more quality and depth to their central midfield, and Gilmour would be a useful signing for them. Furthermore, Frank Lampard knows the player well from their time together at Chelsea, and the former England midfielder could play a vital role in the 21-year-old’s development.

Lampard helped players like Mason Mount develop during his time as the Chelsea manager, and he has shown that he is good at nurturing young players.

In terms of finances, Everton have several limitations and therefore signing Gilmour on loan would make sense economically as well.

The 21-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Goodison Park next season.

As for Chelsea, they will also benefit from Gilmour’s playing experience in the long run. The loan spell could prepare him for future matches in the Chelsea line-up. Alternatively, it would keep his value high if Chelsea want to sell him in the future.
