Everton

After having their Boxing Day Premier League match called off due to Covid outbreak, Everton return to action this Thursday against Newcastle.

The Toffees last game was against Chelsea – a game they drew, ending a four-game losing run away from home for Everton.

Meanwhile, their last outing at Goodison Park saw them record a 2-1 win over Arsenal. That result remains their only win in the last eleven competitive games and would have given them the feeling that they can turn their season around.

They will now welcome Newcastle, looking to make it two consecutive home wins in the Premier League for the first time since the beginning of the season when they won three home games in a row.

Possible Everton starting line-ups

Jordan Pickford; Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane, Lucas Digne; Anthony Gordon, Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure; Allan, Alex Iwobi, Salomón Rondón.

Injured: Tom Davies, Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Andros Townsend, Demarai Gray, Fabian Delph

Doubtful: Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Suspended: None

Newcastle United

After narrowly missing out on all three points in their last game, Newcastle will try again to pick maximum points when they travel to Merseyside on Thursday.

Eddie Howe’s side outplayed Manchester United on Monday, beating the Old Trafford side for effort and energy. The ‘Toon Army’ produced eight shots on target in that game – the most they have managed in a single Premier League game since the start of last season.

But despite their dominance and taking an early lead through Allan Saint-Maximin, Newcastle could only take home one point, after veteran striker Edinson Cavani came from the bench to equalise for Man United.

Although the result would have been disappointing for Howe, the muscle injuries to Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin will undoubtedly be the most frustrating outcome of the game.h The former Bournemouth manager already has a lot of injured players, adding a couple more has been difficult to swallow for him.

And with just three days between their last game and this, Howe will be hoping his players can put in a good energetic showing akin to the one they displayed against United.

If they can play as well as they did at St. James’ Park on Monday, then the visitors can be optimistic about going home with maximum points for just the second time this season.

Possible Newcastle United starting line-ups

Martin Dubravka; Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schär, Matt Ritchie; Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, Joelinton; Dwight Gayle.

Injured: Paul Dummett, Jamal Lewis, Federico Fernandez

Doubtful: Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson

Suspended: None
