Guardiola drops Lionel Messi transfer hint following Tottenham win

The Argentine’s contract runs out this summer and Manchester City is one of the clubs interested in signing him.

Pep Guardiola has spoken about Barcelona star Lionel Messi after Manchester City thrashed Tottenham 3-0 in the weekend Premier League fixture.

Ilkay Gundagon was the star of the match as he scored a brace to help Citizens fortify their position at the top of the leaders’ table.

Following the win, Guardiola insisted that City needs a player in the same vein as Messi to score goals consistently.

The Spanish manager said,

“We don’t have a single player who can win a game, we don’t have a Cristiano, a Messi, a Neymar. We don’t have these types of players who can win games by themselves. I told the players many times, you have to play as a team.

“I will be honest. I’d like to have a player to score, every single game, four goals and run like these players can run. I would love it.”

Perhaps, Guardiola has failed to win the Champions League once ever since he parted ways with Messi and Barca.

Man City reportedly tried to recruit the Argentine skipper last summer when he looked so desperate to leave the Nou Camp before he reversed his decision eventually.

City’s interest has lightened in recent times, with PSG becoming increasingly confident of signing the 33-year-old this summer.

However, Barca manager Ronald Koeman has recently stated that Messi is feeling fine at the moment and added that he doesn’t want to see the six-time Ballon d’Or winner in any other colours than the Blaugrana.
