Manchester City completed a club-record deal to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa earlier this summer, and the player has now been revealed. Still, Chelsea legend John Terry played a crucial role in the transfer.

According to Grealish, the former Aston Villa assistant manager helped convince him to leave the West Midlands club.

Terry explained to Grealish that there is nothing better than Champions League football, and the player should make the step up and join Manchester City to play at the highest level every week.

He said: “I remember speaking to John Terry at Villa, and he said when you stand there and hear that Champions League anthem, there is nothing better.

“It has been difficult watching (Champions League) games. I remember watching City v PSG last year, and the first half was terrific. To be involved would be a dream come true.

“When you see a club paying that much for a player, it means they trust and value you highly and see so much potential. Now I just hope I can repay this football club by winning as many titles as possible — and winning that trophy we all want.

“The club were so close to winning it last year; they were one goal away. That is exactly why I have come here. I look around the changing room, and there is so much talent and depth, and I fully believe we can win it this year.”

Manchester City have reportedly paid a fee of around £100 million for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder, and it will be interesting to see if he can showcase his talents at Etihad next season.

Grealish was one of the most exciting players in the Premier League last season, and he has the potential to improve Manchester City immensely in the final third with his flair and vision.

The reported price seems quite steep for a player who is yet to prove himself at the international level or in Europe, but there is no doubt that Grealish has the talent to justify the outlay in the long run.

Pep Guardiola has helped several players improve immensely since moving to Manchester City, and he could play a key role in Grealish’s development as well.
