Jamie Carragher reveals which positions Liverpool need to strengthen this summer

Georginio Wijnaldum-Sadio Mane-Liverpool

Liverpool have had a mediocre season so far and the Reds are more or less out of the title race.

They lost 4-1 to Manchester City at home yesterday and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds must look to bring in three quality signings in the summer.

It is evident that Liverpool need reinforcements in order to challenge for the Premier League title again and it will be interesting to see if their owners are prepared to pack them in the transfer market at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side have been plagued with injuries this season and they need to bring in quality alternatives.

The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City have deeper squads and they are better equipped to handle injury concerns as compared to the Reds.

According to Carragher, Liverpool need to invest in a quality centre back, a quality forward and someone who can replace Gini Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of this season and it will be interesting to see if the reigning Premier League champions can bring in a suitable alternative.

“Liverpool haven’t got the squad and quality of back-ups of other clubs,” Carragher said.

“I’m convinced they’ll be back. I still think they need three players. They need that centre-back, maybe he’s joined now in [Ozan] Kabak, they need someone to replace Wijnaldum and they need someone in the front three.

“And I’m not talking about players on the bench. I’m talking about players that come into the team like Matip, Wijnaldum and Mane did – and like Salah, Van Dijk and Alisson did.”
