Aston Villa are interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney this summer.

According to reports, the Premier League side are set to submit an offer of around £13 million for the defensive midfielder and it remains to be seen whether the German outfit are keen on selling him.

Villa have been linked with other defensive midfielders this summer but they are yet to make any progress when it comes to signing those targets.

Delaney could prove to be a quality short term addition for them. The experienced midfielder is approaching his 30s but he has the quality to improve Villa for the next few seasons.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order at the German club since the arrival of Jude Bellingham and he needs to leave Dortmund in order to play more often.

A move to the Premier League could be the ideal next challenge in his career and the reported £13 million offer should be enough to convince Dortmund as well.

The midfielder current contract expires in 2022 and selling him now would be a wise choice instead of losing him on a free transfer next year.

Delaney is highly regarded by his teammates and the Dortmund captain Marco Reus once described him as an exceptional player who can make a big difference in close contests.

“Thomas is an exceptional kind of player,” Dortmund teammate Marco Reus once said.

“He’s the kind of player we’ve been missing in the past. You need a player like (Delaney) in the niggly games. He sweeps up and gets the game going again in the other direction. Thomas can be a really important player.”

The player has been linked with Sevilla as well.
