Lampard has little time for Chelsea preparation, ahead of Premier League start

Chelsea boss Lampard slams referee Taylor and VAR decisions

Chelsea begin their Premier League season on the 14th of September and Frank Lampard will be worried about the lack of match preparation.

The Blues ended the 2019/20 season a month ago with a defeat to Bayern Munich and they were given a couple of weeks off after that. However, Lampard hasn’t had too much time to implement his ideas on the squad since then. This become more critical as Chelsea have inducted five players who could claim for starting eleven spot.

Most of his players have been on international duty because of the UEFA Nations League and some of them were in isolation because of the Coronavirus protocols.

The Premier League giants have signed five new players this summer and they will need time to adapt and settle. The likes of Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, Chilwell and Thiago Silva will need more training sessions before they are ready to start in the Premier League.

Havertz has had just one session with the Blues so far and the likes of Chilwell and Silva are yet to manage that. Christian Pulisic is due to return from his injury as well.

Lampard will have only a few days to prepare for the season opener against Brighton and it will be interesting to see how Chelsea perform. The new players will have very little time to prepare tactically with their new side and it remains to be seen whether they are thrown in at the deep end and asked to perform immediately.

They will be expected to challenge for the Premier League title after their massive summer outlay. A poor start to the season could put Lampard and the Blues under tremendous pressure.
