Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League giants can get the deal done before the new season begins.

According to reports, Manchester City are willing to spend around 500 million euros on the 33 year old.

The Argentine will sign a five year deal with the club and he will receive the aforementioned amount over the next three years.

Messi will then spend the final two years of his deal in the MLS playing for City Football Group’s franchise New York City. The Argentine will be paid an additional sum of 250 million euros for that duration.

Manchester City cannot afford to spend 750 million euros on the player because of the financial fair play issues and therefore they are looking to structure the deal in such a way that it helps them evade any potential punishments.

Messi is frustrated with the lack of ambition at Barcelona and he wants to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. It will be interesting to see if he can persuade the Spanish club into letting him leave for nothing.

Barcelona are adamant that the player has a 700 million euro release clause and his suitors will have to pay up if they want to sign him.
