Liverpool 1-1 West Brom: Reds drop points at home despite early Mane goal

Sadio Mane-Liverpool

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Sadio Mane scored the opening goal of the game on the 12th minute.

The Senegal international did well to control Joel Matip’s pass and then spin swiftly to slot it past Sam Johnstone.

The Reds were in firm control throughout the game and they enjoyed 82% ball possession in the first half.

However Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to double their advantage and the German will be disappointed with his team’s chance creation tonight.

West Brom managed to held on and then scored the equaliser on the 82nd minute when Semi Ajayi headed past Alisson to secure a point at Anfield.

The West Brom star was denied early on in the game at the start of the second half and Karlan Grant had his effort denied by the Brazilian as well.

Liverpool had another opportunity late on in the game to secure all three points but Sam Johnstone did exceedingly well to tip Roberto Firmino’s header wide.

The draw tonight leaves Liverpool on 32 points and the defending champions are still three points clear at the top of the table.

Meanwhile West Brom are now 19th with eight points in the Premier League so far.

Sam Allardyce will be thoroughly impressed with his team’s performance tonight and he is now unbeaten in his last five League games against Jurgen Klopp and in his last four matches at Anfield.

It will be interesting to see if West Brom can build on this and survive relegation this season.

Meanwhile Liverpool have dropped six points against the likes of West Brom, Fulham and Brighton this season and they will have to do a lot better against the weaker teams if they want to defend their Premier League crown.
