Liverpool

After a comfortable 3-1 FA Cup win over Cardiff last time out, Liverpool will turn their attention to the Premier League where they are in an uphill battle to catch league-leaders Manchester City.

The hosts booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and Harvey Elliot.

And having previously recorded back-to-back Premier League (PL) wins, they will look to make this a third win on the bounce.

Jurgen Klopp‘s men are undefeated accords their last three PL games (W2, D1) with their last loss coming away to Leicester City in the reverse fixture in December. They will be aiming to avenge that loss when they welcome the Foxes to Anfield.

Despite their good form over the last five games, the return of AFCON finalists Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be a welcome boost for manager Jürgen Klopp as he attempts to keep pace with Man City.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s home record gives them the edge in this tie. The Reds currently have the only remaining undefeated PL home record this season (W7, D3), amid six clean sheets and six wins by a 2+ goal margin.

Possible Liverpool starting line-up

Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson; Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino.

Injured: None

Doubtful: Divock Origi, Sadio Mane

Suspended: None

Leicester City

FA Cup holders Leicester were sent packing out of the competition on Sunday by Arsenal slayers Nottingham Forest.

In an entertaining game at City Ground, Nottingham Forest scored three goals in the first half through Philip Zinkernagel, Brennan Johnson and Joe Worrall. Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the Foxes in the 40th minute, but Djed Spence scored in the 61st minute to restore Forest’s three-goal lead and end Leicester’s defence of the title they won last season.

That loss was the visitor’s second loss in their last three games and extended their winless run to three games in all competitions (D1, 2). It was also their fifth consecutive loss on the road in all competitions.

In the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers’ side sit in 10th, ten points behind the top six. After finishing in the top six in each of the past two seasons, they are looking to finish within the top six again.

Although Leicester are winless in their last two PL games they have now won the two most recent PL head-to-head encounters with Liverpool, after failing to win any of the seven prior (D1, L6).

But given that the visitors are currently on a four-game winless run away from home in the league (D2, L2) this will be a tough game.

They will at least fancy their chances of scoring here given that they have scored in every PL road trip this season.

Possible Leicester City starting line-up

Kasper Schmeichel; James Justin, Daniel Amartey, Caglar Soyuncu, Luke Thomas, Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison; Harvey Barnes, Ademola Lookman, Patson Daka.

Injured: Ryan Bertrand, Timothy Castagne, Johnny Evans, Wesley Fofana, Jamie Vardy

Doubtful: Nampalys Mendy

Suspended: None
