Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing the Liverpool defender Joe Gomez at the end of current Premier League season.

The 24-year-old was a target for the West Midlands club during the January transfer window as well but the Reds refused to sell the England international midway through the season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Steven Gerrard’s side are set to make another move for the young centre back when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Gomez has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool following the arrival of Ibrahima Konate and his persistent injury problems. The defender has barely played for Liverpool this season and a change of scenery would be ideal for him.

The 24-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and a move away from Liverpool could do him a world of good.

The England international has the potential to develop into a top-class defender and he has shown his quality with Liverpool in the past.

Aston Villa could definitely use a quality young centre back alongside Ezri Konsa and Gomez seems like an ideal addition in theory.

It will be interesting to see if the West Midlands club can agree on a fee with Liverpool in the coming months.

Steven Gerrard has outstanding relations with the Anfield club and the former Liverpool midfielder could play a key role in the transfer as well.

Aston Villa have put together an ambitious squad over the past year and a move to Villa Park could be a tempting proposition for the Liverpool defender as well.
