Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is set to join Italian outfit Roma this summer.

According to Football London, the Swiss international is happy in London, but he is attracted by the prospect of playing under Jose Mourinho next season.

Apparently, the 28-year-old midfielder has huge respect for the Portuguese manager.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move back to Germany during the January transfer window, but Mikel Arteta managed to convince the 28-year-old to continue at the London club back then.

Xhaka has been heavily criticized for his performances since joining the London club from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.

Although he has been a regular starter under the likes of Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta, he has not quite lived up to the expectations at Emirates.

The Swiss midfielder was an exceptional player for Borussia Monchengladbach, and he never quite managed to hit those heights with the Premier League outfit.

The lack of imbalance in the Arsenal midfield can also be blamed for the failures of the Swiss midfielder, and it will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho can get the best out of him once again in Italy.

Roma could certainly use more depth in central midfield, and the 28-year-old Arsenal midfielder could prove to be a quality investment if he can adapt to the Italian league and recapture his form.

As for Arsenal, they will be hoping to invest the proceeds from the midfielder’s sale and strengthen their side this summer.
