Man United 3-1 Newcastle: United returned to winning ways, Shoretire makes his debut

United ended their brief drought in the Premier League with an emphatic win against Newcastle.

Manchester United are back to the winning ways after hammering Newcastle United 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Pressure was mounting on the Red Devils after failing to win in any of their last two games and their arch-rivals Manchester City were charging at an unmatched speed in the Premier League title race.

Perhaps, Newcastle had their first go at the goal with Joelinton firing a volley at the edge of the box before David de Gea gloved it over the post with a fine-looking save.

United struck first through a fantastic goal from Marcus Rashford before Allan Saint-Maximin levelled for the Magpies with an equally brilliant strike.

The Red Devils restored the lead after Daniel James buried his shot into the nets after he was picked out by Nemanja Matic in space.

United went on to inflict more misery on Steve Bruce’s side after Rashford was brought down inside the box, which resulted in a penalty. Bruno Fernandes was successful from the spot as he sent Karl Darlow the other way to make it 3-1.

Harry Maguire could have added the fourth goal but his header inside the box was denied by Magpies keeper Darlow.

United’s youth player Shola Shoretire also made his senior team debut, giving the fans another thing to savour about besides the goals.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate for a win and this sort of performance is what he was expecting to help his side get back into the title race.

Nonetheless, United are still trailing Man City by a landslide and with their current run of form, the Red Devils can only hope for a miracle to happen.
