Manchester City are keen on signing the Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks this summer.

As per reports, Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the player and Jose Mourinho is prepared to sell him if an offer of around £40m is presented.

City should have no problems paying that for the Spurs midfielder. They have the resources to afford him and Winks could prove to be a solid addition to their squad.

With David Silva on his way out, City will need to add depth to their midfield and Winks has the technical ability to play in the central midfield for Guardiola.

He is adept at controlling the tempo of the game and keeping possession of the ball. Also, his arrival will add to City’s homegrown quota.

It will be interesting to see if the player is keen on a move to Etihad this summer. It would be a step up for him.

That said, he might not be a regular starter ahead of Rodri, De Bruyne and Gundogan. A player of Winks’ quality will want to play regularly and sitting on the bench could affect his development.

Also, it will be interesting to see how Spurs replace him this summer. They have signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but they cannot depend on the Danish midfielder alone to run their midfield all season.

Another player with a similar skill set will be needed, especially with Ndombele being linked with a move to Inter Milan.
