Manchester City line up shock Danny Ings transfer to replace Sergio Aguero

Danny Ings-Southampton

Ings has emerged as a summer target for Citizens

Southampton striker Danny Ings has emerged as a shocking transfer target for Premier League leaders Manchester City.

According to reports, Man City are preparing a potential summer move for Ings, whose contract with the Saints runs out in the summer of 2022.

Man City are yet to resolve the situation of Sergio Aguero, whose contract at Etihad expires this summer. Various reports suggest that the Argentine is open to a move to Barcelona, where he can reunite with his compatriot Lionel Messi.

Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been viewed as the heir to the throne of Aguero, with City boss Pep Guardiola praising the 20-year-old as one of the best strikers at present.

However, Haaland remains a complicated transfer target due to his excessive valuation as well as the competition from Europe’s top clubs.

Ings has been one of the best strikers in England for the past few seasons though it’s hard to find his name among the elites.

Ever since he left Liverpool, Ings has been enjoying the best years of his career with the Saints and last season he ended up as the joint-second top scorer in the Premier League with 22 goals.

The 28-year-old’s form has slightly dipped of late this season but it is mainly due to the Saints’ poor form.

City’s priority turns out to be signing a striker in the next transfer window but it remains to be seen whether Ings can fill in the shoes of Aguero.
