Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes vows to ‘come back stronger’ after penalty miss against Aston Villa

An all-star Manchester United team inexplicably suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season against Aston Villa, losing 1-0 Dean Smith’s men at home due to an 88th-minute header by defensive stalwart Kortney Hause. This shock drubbing at the hands of the Lions sees them drop to fourth place with 13 points out of a possible 18.

However, in the dying embers of the game, the Red Devils were handed a golden opportunity to level the score. Hause also had a shocker of a moment in his own penalty box as the defender ended up gifting United a last-minute penalty through a handball.

Despite the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo on the field, their regular penalty-taker Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take his side on to level terms. The Portuguese midfielder skied the ball over the bar, failing to convert from 12 yards out to everyone’s astonishment. Subsequently, United lost their first league match of the season with Fernandes leaving the pitch, visibly disappointed.

He later apologised to the fans through a social media post, vowing to make a return, as reported by Sky Sports. The 27-year-old star stated,”I will come back stronger for me because these are the standards I hold myself to, but most of all for my teammates and our fans who have always supported us.”

Bruno Fernandes will have the opportunity to redeem himself on 30th September, when United are slated to host Villarreal in their second group stage match of the Champions League.
