Pep Guardiola confirms Manchester City are trying to sign Marc Cucurella

Manchester City have recently been linked with a move for the Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella.

Manager Pep Guardiola has now revealed that the Premier League champions are in negotiations to sign the fullback this summer.

Cucurella was one of the best fullbacks in the league last season, and it is no surprise Manchester City are looking to bring him in. It is one area where the champions will need to improve.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is headed to Arsenal, and City have had to rely on right-backs and centre-backs as their left-sided defender over the past year. Cancel, and Ake have been deployed in that role.

Bringing in a specialist left-back should be a priority for City this summer, and Cucurella seems like an ideal fit for them.

The Brighton defender is solid at the back and outstanding forward. He should be a good fit for Pep Guardiola’s attacking style of play.

Cucurella is yet to reach his peak, and he should improve further under a world-class manager like Guardiola.

The Manchester City manager claims that if the club fail to reach an agreement with Brighton, they will look to use the like of Ake, Cancelo or youngster Wilson-Esbrand as their left back next season.

The opportunity to join City is a tempting proposition for most players, and Cucurella will be desperate for the move. He would be able to play Champions League football with them.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks.
