The Portuguese manager is on the wishlist of Newcastle, who have recently undergone a £305m takeover.

AS Rommanager Jose Mourinho has responded to the speculation regarding a move to Newcastle United.

The Magpies are understood to be on the lookout for a new manager since undergoing a takeover by Saudi Arabian Consortium PIF and Mourinho’s name is high on their wishlist. The new owners are looking to fire Steve Bruce soon and want an experienced manager in his place.

The Portuguese boss has said that he has mutual respect for Newcastle and their fans since he had previously worked under club legend, Sir Bobby Robson.

However, he shrugged off the speculations on a potential move to St James’ Park, stating that he is focused on his current job at the Italian capital.

Mourinho said (according to Sky Sports): “On Newcastle, I don’t have anything to say. Absolutely nothing to say.

“The only thing I can say is that for many, many years, I worked with one of the most important figures in the history of Newcastle, Sir Bobby Robson, and so because of that I have always had a bit of an emotional connection with that city and that fanbase. But it’s nothing more than that.”

“I am 100 per cent focused on the Roma project, the Friedkin project.”

Mourinho took over at AS Roma in the summer after losing his job at Tottenham Hotspur in April.

The former Manchester United gaffer has been off to a great start in Serie A this season, leading Giallorossi to 5 wins out of 7 games.
