The Portuguese manager is plotting a January swoop for United right-back Dalot.

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is planning to raid his former club Manchester United to sign right-back Diogo Dalot.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Mourinho wants to add the Portuguese full-back to the ranks of Giallorossi in January.

Dalot, 22, joined the Red Devils in 2018 when Mourinho was in charge at Old Trafford.

However, the Portuguese defender failed to prove himself in the Premier League. At the same time, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recruit in the summer of 2019 – has established himself as United’s first-choice full-back.

Dalot returned to Old Trafford in the summer after spending his last season on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan.

The former Porto star has made two appearances this season, with one coming in the Champions League group stage game against Young Boys when Wan Bissaka was shown red in the first half.

Although he has two years left in his contract, Dalot could be keen on a move away from Old Trafford as he is down the pecking order of Solskjaer.

Mourinho is now looking to provide his compatriot with an escape route at AS Roma, who are off to a brilliant start to the new season.

Dalot has plenty of time to rejuvenate his career in a league like Serie A, given his young age.

Mourinho has started his rebuild at Stadio Olimpico in the best possible way, leading Giallorossi to 3 wins out of 4 games in Serie A and an emphatic victory against CSKA Sofia in the Conference League.
