Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has urged the club to strengthen the squad significantly before the transfer window closes, or the Blues could have a disappointing season next year.

Chelsea were recently beaten by Charlotte FC in the pre-season, and they have now succumbed to a 4-0 defeat against arch-rivals Arsenal in another pre-season game.

Tuchel outlined the lack of quality in his attack. He also mentioned that some players are not fully committed to the cause because they are considering their futures at Stamford Bridge.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can bring in the necessary reinforcements in the coming weeks.

With the Premier League season roughly two weeks away, Chelsea will have to accelerate their proceedings in the transfer market if they want to challenge for the title.

The Blues have lost key players like Antonio Rudiger this summer. Although they have managed to bring in Kalidou Koulibaly as his alternative, they will have to sign more defenders to cope with the loss of Andreas Christensen and the potential departure of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

Furthermore, the Blues will need to bring in a reliable goalscorer after loaning Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan. The likes of Timo Werner were quite disappointing last season, and it is highly unlikely that they will be able to hit top form next season.

Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, but the England international is suited to a wide role, and they must look to sign a specialist striker this summer.

“I am far from relaxed,” Tuchel said via Football365. “We were simply not good enough. We were simply not competitive.

“The worrying part is that the level of commitment physically and mentally for this match was far higher for Arsenal than for us.

“My analysis of the season does not change because of this game. Unfortunately, it proved my point.

“The last week proves my point. I would absolutely prefer not to be right. I did everything to prove myself wrong, but at the moment, I feel that I was right.

“I look at the last season and parts of the game where we struggled, parts of the season where we struggled, and then we got sanctioned, and players left us, and some players are trying to leave us, and this is where it is.

“So we had an urgent appeal for quality players, a huge amount of quality players. We got two quality players but we are not competitive like this. Unfortunately you could see it today.”
