Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

According to Christian Falk, the Spanish defender is now closing in on a move to Barcelona.

The journalist tweeted that the 31-year-old is in the final stages of completing his move to the Spanish club, and final negotiations are planned between the two clubs after the pre-season tour of the United States.

Alonso struggled to hold on to a regular starting berth at Chelsea last season, and he will be hoping for more game time at the Spanish club now.

Barcelona have been actively adding more quality and depth to their defence this summer, and the arrival of Alonso will certainly help them.

The Spanish giants have already signed Andreas Christensen on a free transfer from Chelsea earlier in the summer. They are reportedly eyeing a move for another Chelsea defender, Cesar Azpilicueta.

Meanwhile, the two clubs are at loggerheads over the transfer of Jules Kounde.

The Sevilla defender is a target for both clubs, and it will be interesting to see who ends up signing him eventually.

It will be interesting to see how Chelsea replace these defenders before the transfer window closes. They have already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen from last season.

The Blues have brought in Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. Still, the Senegalese international will not be enough, and Thomas Tuchel will have to bring in more defenders before the window closes.
