Tottenham Hotspur: Tanguy Ndombele (73′), Harry Kane (86″ and 90″)
Aston Villa: John McGinn (9″)
Tottenham Hotspur beat newly promoted Aston Villa 3-1 to win their first match in 2019-20 session of Premier league in the new stadium. Harry Kane got straight into the groove with two late goals as Tottenham Hotspur recovered from an early setback to beat promoted Aston Villa 3-1 at home on Saturday.
Villa, back in the top flight after three seasons away, looked set to mark their return in style as they hung on tenaciously to John McGinn’s ninth-minute opener.
But Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele fired home a debut goal in the 73rd minute to break Villa’s resistance.
However, a brilliant 25-yard strike from Ndombele proved the catalyst for Spurs to snatch victory.
Spurs struck late
Spurs started positively as Lucas Moura twice went close inside the opening five minutes, but were then caught out as Villa took the lead.
A long ball forward from Tyrone Mings bounced through for McGinn, who took it in his stride and then finished past Hugo Lloris after beating Danny Rose.
Spurs struggled to create chances in response and Villa could have extended their lead as Trezeguet saw a shot blocked and then got into the box again and was denied by Lloris.
