Lyon started their Ligue 1 campaign with 3-0 win against Monaco. Monaco, which has Thierry Henry as its boss last season, find it difficult to match Lyon at their home ground at Stade Louis II. Cesc Fàbregas of Monaco, was shown red when the match is half an hour old, Monaco fight with 10 men for remaining one hour of the match.

Monaco continued where they left off last term when they finished 17th in the 20-team table, three points clear of relegation.

Moussa Dembélé opened the account for Lyon at 5″ into the match from a corner.  Memphis Depay increased tally at 36th minute with an attempt from 35 metre, which went past Benjamin Lecomte. Monaco did their best to battle back in the second half but it was a lost cause and Tousart completed their misery with a 25-metre effort from Thiago Mendes’ pass.

In a bizarre episode, Cesc Fàbregas got marching order. The Spaniard chased a long ball into the area, appeared to clip the heels of Leo Dubois and was booked for what seemed an innocuous challenge. However, the referee then consulted the VAR and changed the card to a red.
