West Ham 3-2 Liverpool: David Moyes’ men into the top three after a memorable win

David Moyes-West Ham United

Liverpool crashed to a 3-2 defeat against West Ham United in the Premier League earlier tonight.

An own goal from Allison in the first half and second-half strikes from Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma was enough to earn a memorable win for the Hammers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an exceptional free-kick to level the scores for Liverpool in the first half but the Reds crumbled in the second half. Substitute Divock Origi threw Liverpool a lifeline with his goal towards the end of the game but the Reds failed to score the equalizer eventually.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

West Ham were exceptional from set-pieces

The Hammers scored the opening goal of the game from a set-piece and Zouma fired the third goal of the game from a corner as well.

Liverpool struggled to mark the towering West Ham defenders during corners and they were duly punished.

Jurgen Klopp’s inept midfield

The Reds struggled at the middle of the park throughout the contest and they needed a defensively disciplined midfielder alongside Fabinho to cut out the West Ham counter attacks.

The Reds have not replaced Gini Wijnaldum this season and the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson have been brutally exposed time and again.

David Moyes has done an exceptional job so far

The Scottish manager was heavily criticized for his time at Manchester United but he has bounced back strongly since his appointment at West Ham.

Moyes is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the Premier League this season and the Hammers are currently in the top four under his management.

The former Everton manager helped West Ham secure a place in the Europa League at the end of last season and it will be interesting to see if he can guide the Londoners to Champions League qualification this time around.
