Why AC Milan need Brandt?

AC Milan are reportedly considering a move for Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt.

The Rossoneri are pondering over the replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, who recently sealed a move to rivals Inter Milan.

Milan have already been linked with a plethora of attacking midfielders, including Isco, Philippe Coutinho and Hakim Ziyech, and now they have added German playmaker Brandt to their wishlist.

However, according to reports, Rossoneri are facing a tough battle with fellow Serie A outfit Lazio for the signing of Brandt.

Earlier, Milan had prepared an offer worth 27m euros for the 25-year-old, intending to sign him initially on loan.

Julian Brandt Development

Brandt became one of Germany’s best attacking midfielders during his five-year spell at Bayer Leverkusen, and he moved to Dortmund in the summer of 2019.

In his first season at Signal Iduna Park, Brandt flourished under then-manager Lucian Favre’s attack-minded set-up, eventually racking up 3 goals and 7 assists.

The 35-capped German international is a versatile player and can play as a central midfielder, advanced playmaker and winger.

AC Milan back in UEFA Champions League

Milan are planning to build a competitive squad as they will be playing in the Champions League next season after a stellar 2020/21 season in which they ended as runners up of Serie A.

Stefano Pioli has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the last season, and he needs a player as good as Calhanoglu to play in the No.10 position.
