Genoa 2-1 Napoli: Pandev double stuns Napoli

Victor Osimhen-Napoli

Politano’s late goal wasn’t enough as Napoli suffered a shock away defeat against Genoa.

Genoa have produced a shocking 2-1 win over Napoli, with striker Goran Pandev netting a brace.

Napoli had a great chance of moving into the top four race but Genoa crashed their plans with a shock win.

Pandev put the hosts ahead in the first quarter before he doubled the lead in the 26th minute, leaving Neopolitans shell shocked. The goal marked the third of the season for the Macedonian striker

Gennaro Gattuso‘s men, in turn, were wasteful with their chances as they managed to halve the lead through Matteo Politano only in the 79th minute, which wasn’t enough as Genoa picked up a surprise win.

Napoli could have evened with Roma if they had won the game but it was Genoa who moved a place high to eleventh after going undefeated in their last five games in Serie A.

The Partenopei missed the services of key players like Kalidou Kalibouly, Dries Mertens while Lorenzo Insigne and Victor Osimhen were thrown into the field despite not being fully fit.

Gattuso offered his thoughts on the defeat: “There’s not much to say tonight. I’ve played football, I know you can make mistakes, but we don’t have time to work on playing out from the back in training, as we play every three days.

“We basically created the two goals against ourselves. We’re doing this a lot at the moment and that hurts, because our losses are basically photocopies of each other.”
