Napoli’s woes against Inter continues following the narrow 1-0 defeat at San Siro

Inter have edged out fierce opponents Napoli 1-0 at San Siro as Romelu Lukau scored the only goal of the game.

With both teams in contention for the top four race, a humdinger of a contest was expected and perhaps despite the shortage of goals, the game delivered it’s best.

Lautaro Martinez had an early sight at the goal but the Argentine struck his shot wide despite a brilliant turn inside the box.

Inter keeper Samir Handanovic was the one who stood between Napoli and their chances for an equaliser as he made a string of stunning saves to deny the Partenopei a goal. The best save of the day was against Lorenzo Insigne’s backheel effort in the second half.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Matteo Darmian was brought down inside the box by David Ospina for which a penalty was awarded. Insigne also saw a red card for dissent before Romelu Lukaku fired his shot to the nets.

Nonetheless, Gennaro Gattuso’ men went all out for the equaliser till the final minute and were even closer when Petgana’s shot hit the frame of the goal.

Inter have flown to the top of the Serie A table, leapfrogging arch-rivals Milan, who dropped points after the 2-2 draw against Genoa.

Napoli have gone a place down to the fourth in Serie A table as Juventus had advanced them following the draw against Atalanta.
