Juventus boss could well be heading for the exit door after woeful debut season

Andrea Pirlo-Juventus

The former Italian midfielder appears to be gambling with his job after a lacklustre season.

Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo has found himself at the receiving end as the Bianconeri, who are currently fourth in the table, see themselves as non-favourites to retain the title.

Furthermore, Pirlo’s position as Juve manager is in grave danger following the latest setback against Torino, where the game ended 2-2.

After the sacking of Maurizio Sarri, The Old Lady named the inexperienced Pirlo as his replacement.

The prospect of the former Italian international taking the reigns at Turin looked intriguing at the start given his illustrious playing career and the status as Juve legend. However, the Old Lady could be regretting the decision in the hindsight.

Although Pirlo looks like a man of new ideas the only thing that mattered was implementing them to greater effect on the field which he didn’t.

Juve’s setbacks could have happened few and far between this season but it was enough for title contenders like Inter Milan and AC Milan to take full advantage.

The Old Lady have lost only four games this season – the second-lowest after Inter Milan – but they have drawn eight times.

The Bianconeri have been targeting the Champions League glory – their long-running nemesis – over the past few seasons, which resulted in the sackings of Max Allegri and Sarri although both won the Scudetto.

Pirlo was in the spotlight during the Champions League however like all of his predecessors, the former AC Milan midfielder didn’t beg to differ as Juve got knocked out of the competition in the round of 16 against Porto

As we reach the business end of the season, the biggest task of Pirlo would be clinging to the top-four race since their chances of reclaiming the title are literally over.

Andrea Pirlo could be sacked with poor results in Juventus’ upcoming matches against Torino & Napoli. [Gazzetta]
