Former Italian managers Capello, Costacurta disappointed with Barcelona’s defeat against Bayern Munich

The Catalan giants slumped to a heavy defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night.

Barcelona succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to German giants Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou in their opening game of the UEFA Champions League.

The Catalans looked helpless throughout the game as Bayern picked up a thumping win after goals from Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.

Ronald Koeman’s side put on a horrific display, failing to register a single shot on goal.

Former Italian managers Alessandro Costacurta and Fabio Capello have offered their thoughts on Barca’s performance, with the former one claiming that the Catalan giants have lost their dominance at their fortress.

Costacurta said: “I expected something more from Barcelona, but I have to say that Bayern is the worst team to face in the first group stage game.”

However, It’s been like this for the last two years. Last season, the Camp Nou was up for grabs for everybody. Juventus and PSG won there easily.”

Former England coach Capello claimed that Barca have lost their prominence in the European competition while pinpointing the lack of quality in the squad.

Capello said: “Barcelona used to have so much quality that to play there would give you a headache.

“Last night, they failed to register a single shot on target. There was the commitment but not enough quality to create trouble for Bayern. It will be really, really hard.

“If you don’t have a shot on target, it means you don’t have the physical and technical strength to create trouble at this level.

After suffering an awful 8-2 defeat against Bayern when they met in the Champions League 2019/20 season, Barca haven’t learnt their lesson. The Bavarians have had Barca’s numbers once again after thrashing them last night.
