Salernitana

Salernitana will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they welcome Lecce to Salerno this Friday.

The hosts made it five Serie A games without defeat last week (W1, D4) when they held Juventus to a 2-2 draw. In a game that was marked by VAR controversy, Salernitana let slip a 2-0 lead and would have lost had VAR not wrongly chalked off a legitimate last-minute winner by Arkadiusz Milik.

The game also witnessed three red cards during stoppage time and saw Salernitana’s president offering to replay the game to make up for a VAR error.

While it remains to be seen if the game will be replayed, Salernitana will be happy to have taken one point away from home against Juventus despite throwing away a two-goal lead.

Their aim in this game will be to extend their unbeaten start to the season to six games. Salernitana come into this tie better off at this stage than they were last season in three important parameters – points, goals scored, and goals conceded.

Manager Davide Nicola asking his side to be more “ambitious” after the last match, and so he’ll likely be urging his men to keep building up momentum early. But he will be worried about dropping points from leading positions as his side have done so in both of their recent games.

Possible Salernitana starting line-up

Luigi Sepe; Dylan Bronn, Norbert Gyomber, Domagoj Bradaric; Antonio Candreva, Lassana Coulibaly, Giulio Maggiore, Tonny Vilhena, Pasquale Mazzocchi; Boulaye Dia, Federico Bonazzoli.

Injured: Emil Bohinen, Matteo Lovato, Ivan Radovanovic, Franck Ribery

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Federico Fazio

Lecce

Lecce’s horrible start to the season does not look like stopping anytime soon as they travel to Salerno without their coach Marco Baroni.

The visitors’ coach is suspended for this tie after his outburst in their last game led to his being sent off. Like their hosts, Lecce themselves also come into this tie off the back of a draw that was marred by VAR controversy.

The result extended their wait for a league win to seven games having not won a game since the season began (D3, L3).

As they prepare to meet their Souther Italy counterparts for the first time in Serie A, they will hope they can find their scoring boots having only scored four goals in the league this season.

Possible Lecce starting line-up

Wladimiro Falcone; Valentin Gandrey, Marin Pongracic, Federico Baschriotto, Giuseppe Pezzella; Kristijan Biistrovic, Morten Hjulmand, Johann Helgason; Lameck Banda, Assan Ceesay, Di Francesco.

Injured: J.V Persson, Mert Cetin, Kastriot Dermaku

Doubtful: Gabriel Strefezza

Suspended: None

Prediction

Salernitana 2-0 Lecce
