Lille

French Ligue 1 defending champions Lille turn their attention to the UCL this Tuesday where they welcome Austrian side Salzburg.

The hosts have performed better in the UCL than they have in the domestic league and are entering this tie sitting in second place. Although they began their first three UCL games with a draw, a 2-1 win over Sevilla on matchday four propelled them into the top two.

A win here could guarantee them a place in the next round, which will be a big achievement given that they have failed to progress to the next round for 15 years.

However, Lille are getting a reputation as a team that loves to draw games and a team that does not score goals. They have hosted two scoreless draws in this group stage against the other two Group G clubs to date (Wolfsburg and Sevilla) and have also registered a further three draws from their last four Ligue 1 fixtures.

They will desperate to get a win this time and push themselves over Salzburg at the top of the table.

Possible Lille starting line-ups

Ivo Grbic, Zeki Celik, Jose Fonte, Tiago Djalo, Reinildo Mandava, Isaac Lihadji, Cheikh Niasse, Amadou Onana, Yusuf Yazici, Burak Yilmaz, Jonathan David.

Injured: None

Doubtful: Sven Botman, Jonathan Bamba, Renato Sanches

Suspended: Benjamin Andre, Jonathan Ikone

RB Salzburg

Austrian Bundesliga leaders Salzburg will travel to France looking to continue their stay at the top of the Group G table.

The visitors have taken seven points from their first four UCL group games and are two points ahead of the rest in this very competitive group.

However, Matthias Jaissle’s young side are struggling to keep their momentum going in recent games. They come into this tie with just one win from their last four games in all competitions.

Their last league outing ended in a goalless draw with Admira Wacker on Saturday. They will be desperate to avoid a draw there and take home all three points as a win here will be enough for progression with Lille and Wolfsburg – both two points behind – facing off on the final matchday.

Although all their Champions League group-stage wins this season have come on home soil, they have developed a hot scoring streak on the road, netting in each of their last 10 away Champions League games since drawing a blank at Red Star Belgrade in 2018.

Possible RB starting line-ups

Philipp Kohn, Rasmus Nissen Kristensen, Jerome Onguene, Maximilian Wober, Andreas Ulmer, Mohamed Camara, Maurits Kjaergaard, Nicolas Seiwald, Brenden Aaronson, Karim Adeyemi, Chukwubuike Adamu.

Injured: Albert Vallci, Zlatko Junuzovic, Kamil Piatkowski, Sekou Koita

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
