Zinedine Zidane might have saved his job after edging out Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Real Madrid have edged out Sevilla with a narrow 1-0 win as goalkeeper Yassine Bounou scored an own goal.

Los Blancos entered into the game with more pressure after a series of unimpressive results, which even raised doubts over manager Zinedine Zidane’s future.

However, Madrid were the better side in the first half and even came close to scoring when Karim Benzema’s curled effort was denied by Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. The Moroccan shot-stopper also came up with another decent the following minute, thus keeping the scoreboard intact at the half-time.

It only took a while for Bounou to become a villain as he made a costly error, leading to an own goal and thus allowed Madrid to take the lead. The Moroccan’s own goal alone made the difference as Zidane’s men picked up an important win when the odds were stacked against them.

Zidane would be relieved to see his side come up with a win after a brief poor run of form and the French manager could well have saved his job for the time being.

Elsewhere, Sevilla, who were deemed as the favourites, failed to inflict pain on an already-hurt Madrid side.

Madrid have cruised to third in the La Liga table following the win, four points short of Atletico Madrid.

Los Blancos await the biggest test next week when they face Borussia Monchengladbach in a must-win game in the Champions League.
