Leicester City establish title credentials with a narrow win over Newcastle

Youri Tielemans-Leicester City

Leicester City picked up a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League earlier tonight.

James Maddison scored the opening goal of the game for the away side after he was teed up by Jamie Vardy.

The Leicester City striker had a first-half goal ruled out for offside and he came close to giving his team the lead when he volleyed wide from a narrow angle.

Youri Tielemans doubled Leicester City’s advantage on the 72nd minute after the Belgian midfielder converted from a pullback from Marc Albrighton.

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll gave the home side some hope with a late goal on the 82nd minute but  the home side failed to make the most of the situation and score the equaliser.

Leicester City have now equalled a club record win of five consecutive away games and they are third in the Premier League table with 32 points.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are now just one point behind League leaders Liverpool and they will be hoping to overtake the Champions in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are 15th in the Premier League table with 19 points and Steve Bruce will be under immense pressure to turn his team’s form around.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can improve defensively and put together a winning run now.

There is no doubt that the magpies have a reasonably good team at their disposal but they are struggling with consistency issues right now.

Meanwhile Leicester City are very much in the title race and it will be interesting to see if they can sustain the title challenge with a series of good performance in the coming months.
