Both the teams failed to score in a game full of opportunities.
Atalanta have been held to a goalless draw by Spezia in the Serie A away fixture.
Spezia had the first go at the goal after Diego Farias’ strike hit the post. Robin Gosens had a fantastic opportunity to give Atalanta the lead but his shot went over the post.
Duvan Zapata also had his shot denied by the woodwork, thus making a total of two in the first half.
Gosens found the nets shortly after but VAR turned down the goal due to an offside in the build-up.
The second half saw Spezia goalkeeper Ivan Provedel get tested a lot, with Atalanta firing in shots after shots.
Mario Pasalic could have done better with his chances as he found the gloves of Provedel a couple of times when he should have scored.
Atalanta have now picked up a second straight draw this season and are without a win in the last three games.
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini also offered his thoughts on the result, with the Italian manager still feeling happy despite the draw.
“These are not easy games, we were up against a side in great shape and they were very focused in defence for 90 minutes. We created many opportunities and didn’t convert them, so it ended 0-0.
“The performance wasn’t perfect, but the team did what it needed to.”
Atalanta will next be up against Liverpool in the Champions League, with their previous encounter ending in a 5-0 defeat for the Italian side.
