Real Sociedad beat Real Madrid 4-3 in Copa del Rey’s quarterfinal at Santiago Bernabeu, thus securing their place in the last four.
Real Madrid – Formation
Real Madrid have fielded Marcelo, James Rodriguez, Eder Militao, Brahim Díaz and Alphonse Areola in starting eleven. Perhaps they have to be played some point of time, and as a manager, Zidane has to rotate side and ensure providing opportunities for all. But as the current Copa del Rey is the one-legged format, Real Madrid had to pay the price. Zidane has been regularly praised when his decisions worked, but it has undoubtedly backfired today.
Though the final scoresheet looks respectable, Sociedad even had leads of 3-0 and 4-1 during the match, La Liga topper now need to have a serious introspection.
Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad – Goals
Martin Odegaard scored the first goal, as his shot went through the legs of Militia and Areola. As he was on loan from Bernabeu, he did not have a kind of celebration, we generally see after a goal, especially when it comes during a bigger occasion. Areola was able to respond to Isak’s effort quickly, yet he looked at the sea for the Norwegian’s attempt.
Alexander Isak stood tall among Real Sociedad players. He scored two goals, and one of his goals was ruled out. The first one of his goal made it 2-0, was an exceptional volley that left Alphonse Areola flat-footed in his goal. What a strike!
Marcelo had been in discussion for some time. He lost his starting spot and was linked to Juventus and others in the past. He scored a goal, but Zidane has to sole few riddles.
Vinicius Junior was the best from Real Madrid side. He was relentless and always in action. He scored one, assisted one and one of his goal was ruled out. He got Zidane’s trust despite a few frustrating outing in the past. Hope he would regain his confidence.
Rodrygo came as a substitute and scored at 82 minutes of the match. Nacho further reduced the margin from a header at stoppage time.
