Top 9 free agents who could be snapped up this summer

Lionel Messi-Barcelona

From Lionel Messi to Lyon forward Memphis Depay, there are an awful lot of players who will have their contract expire this summer. Here are the top 9 free agents who could move out at the end of this season.

Lionel Messi

Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi has his contract expiring in a few weeks yet he remains coy over his future. Signing Messi is not for everyone except the European powerhouse PSG. The French giants are said to be the only club linked with the Argentine and they also had reportedly submitted a lucrative offer. But the Catalan club feels that the 33-year-old would eventually stay put due to the presence of new president Joan Laporta, who is trying his every bit to keep the club legend.

Sergio Ramos

The ongoing transfer saga between Real Madrid and Sergio has caught everyone’s attention and the chances are less for the Spaniard to survive beyond the summer. Ramos is said to have declined multiple offers from the Spanish capital club as he demands higher wages with an improved contract.

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City had earlier confirmed that Sergio Aguero would leave at the end of this season. The Argentine striker has the attention of giants like PSG and Barcelona, with the latter said to be in advanced talks to sign him on a free transfer.

Memphis Depay

Barca manager Ronald Koeman is said to be still persistent on signing Memphis Depay from Lyon as his contract expires this summer. The 26-year-old has plenty of suitors elsewhere – Juventus, AC Milan, PSG – but he has seemingly set his sights on joining the Catalan club.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Next up is Depay’s compatriot Georginio Wijnaldum, who has reportedly decided to move away from Liverpool this summer. Barca are also understood to be in the race for the 29-year-old and as expected, Koeman is the reason behind it.

Hakan Calhanoglu

AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu is yet to resolve his future at San Siro but reports are stating that the Turkish international could eventually put a pen to paper on a new deal.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

However, Milan are facing difficulties regarding the future of young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who looks keen on leaving the San Siro this summer. Juventus and Chelsea are waiting on the wings to capture the Italian on a free transfer.

Lucas Vazquez

A mainstay for Real Madrid since the youth ranks, Lucas Vazquez will run out of contract this summer. The Spaniard is demanding higher wages in his new deal and there are also a handful of clubs – Leeds United, Bayern Munich, Everton and Tottenham – who want to sign him.

Jerome Boateng

Boateng’s time at Bayern Munich is nearing the end as the Bundesliga champions have all but confirmed his departure. The German centre-back has been linked with a move to Premier League.
