La Liga Preview: Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad, key stats, line-ups, odds, prediction

Luis Suarez-Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid host Real Sociedad this Wednesday for the first of the three games they have left to secure their first La Liga title in seven years.

Stadium: Wanda Metropolitano

Key Statistics

Atletico Madrid need a minimum of eight points to win the league, meaning that they must win all three remaining La Liga games to guarantee that.

They are currently on a four game-winning run at home and unbeaten in five home games.

They have the league’s tightest defence having conceded 22 goals this season.

Real Sociedad have won three from their last five games (L2).

They need a minimum of six points to qualify for the Europa League next season.

Atletico Madrid

Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona and Real Madrid’s draw with Sevilla means that Atletico Madrid remain in the driving seat of the La Liga title this season.

Diego Simeone’s side have three games to seal the title and will be looking to build on that last result at the Nou Camp and pick up all three points here.

Their home form so far means that they look very likely to do so, having won their last four home games. Their record at home has been aided by a stubborn defence that has conceded just nine goals at home all season.

Heading into this tie, Los Rojiblancos have kept three straight clean sheets in their last three home games. They have also scored eight times in that period, putting their poor scoring form of late February and early March to bed.

They will fancy their chances in this tie and look primed to pick up all three points.

Thomas Lemar is the only player set to miss the action after the Frenchman picked up an injury in his side’s weekend draw with Barcelona.

Possible line-ups

Jan Oblak; Mario Hermoso, Jose Gimenez, Stefan Savic, Kieran Trippier; Yannick Carrasco, Koke, Saul, Marcos Llorente; Luis Suarez, Angel Correa.

Real Sociedad

Despite beginning the season as one of the title contenders, Real Sociedad are still chasing a top-six finish after 35 rounds of matches.

The side who are currently occupying the fifth place in the league standings require at least two wins from their last three games to ensure that they compete in Europe next season. They will hope that one of those wins can come against the league leaders.

The visitors however enter this tie on a patchy run of form away from home, having taken one win from their last five away games in the league. Although they drew against Real Madrid in that period, showing that on their day they could hurt any side.

Alguacil will hope that his side can put up a good performance on Wednesday without the services of Carlos Fernandez, Aihen Munoz and Mikel Merino, who are all suffering varying injuries. Urko Gonzalez is still unavailable after testing positive for COVID-19 last month.

Possible line-ups

Alex Remiro; Nacho Monreal, Robin Le Normand, Aritz Elustondo, Andoni Gorosabel; David Silva, Ander Guevara, Jon Guridi, Cristian Portu; Mikel Oyarzabal, Alexander Isak.
