Liverpool slip to a defeat against Atalanta in the Champions League.
Liverpool crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Atalanta in the Champions League earlier tonight.
Jurgen Klopp had to field a heavily rotated starting lineup due to injury issues and fixture congestion and the fringe players struggled to deliver against a well-drilled Atalanta side.
The Reds were without eight key starters tonight. Klopp was without his first-choice back four and the likes of Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago and Keita in the midfield.
Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota were rested in attack as well.
Josip Ilicic scored the first goal of the game for Atalanta on the 60th minute after a fantastic cross from Alejandro Gomez.
The Italian outfit doubled their advantage four minutes later from another cross which was finished off by Robin Gosens.
Despite the defeat Liverpool remain on top of Group B with nine points from four matches.
Ajax and Atalanta are level on points right now and they will be hoping to secure their place in the next round of the competition by winning their remaining games.
Liverpool, Ajax and Atlanta all have a chance of making it to the knockout round for the competition and it will be interesting to see which two teams manage to get the job done.
The Reds will take on Ajax at home in their next game and a win would see them qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
