Sergio Aguero-Manchester City

Man City advance to the knockout rounds with a 3-0 win over Marseille

Manchester City picked up a 3-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League earlier tonight.

The Premier League side had already qualified for the knockout rounds of the competition before tonight’s scheme but they managed to put on a thoroughly professional performance and grind out another win.

Marseille were excellent in the first half and they managed to keep the Manchester City attack quite however Pep Guardiola’s side stepped it up in the second half and secured a comfortable win.

Ferran Torres scored the opening goal of the game on the 48th minute and Manchester City increased their advantage on the 77th minute through Sergio Aguero.

Raheem Sterling wrapped up the scoring on the stroke of full time and Manchester City will now advance into the next round of the Champions League having won their group convincingly.

Pep Guardiola has been trying to win the Champions League ever since he left Barcelona and he will be desperate to go all the way this season.

In the previous seasons, Manchester City lacked the defensive organisation to do well in the Champions League but the signing of Ruben Dias has helped them a lot and City certainly have the quality to win the tournament this year.

The only negative from tonight’s game for Manchester City is the injury to Eric Garcia. The youngster was given a chance to showcase his talent against Marseille tonight but he left the pitch with an injury in the first half.
