Sevilla

Sevilla will look to get their stuttering season back on track when they welcome free-scoring Manchester City to Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Tuesday.

The hosts have endured a poor start to their season, having failed to win any of their opening four games in the Spanish La Liga (D1, L1). They come into this tie on the back of a 3-0 loss to Barcelona over the weekend, a result that saw them concede more than two goals in a competitive contest for the first time since April.

For a team that were competing for the Spanish title by this time last year, their fall from form has been catastrophic. Julen Lopetegui’s side are the most successful in UEFA Cup/Europa League history (six titles) and are making a third-successive UEFA Champions League group stage appearance this season. So based on history, they are ahead of their visitors in this competition.

They will hope to give their disappointed fans something to cheer about when they welcome Pep Guardiola’s side to Spain. But they have faltered when hosting games in this competition, losing four of their last eight UCL home matches (W3, D1) in a run that includes a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich in 2017/18 – Sevilla’s joint-record progression in this competition.

Possible Sevilla starting line-up

Yassine Bounou; Jesús Navas, Nianzou Kouassi, Karim Rekik, Alex Telles; Joan Jordan, Fernando, Oliver Torres; Erik Lamela, Dario Gomez, Rafael Mir.

Injured: Marcao, Jesus Corona, Oliver Torres, Karim Kekik

Doubtful: None

Manchester City

Manchester City will look to kick off their UCL campaign with a win when they travel to Seville on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been in impressive form this season, having won four of their opening six league games so far. They have scored eleven goals in their last three games, with summer signing Erling Haaland scoring seven of those goals. So they travel to the South of Spain on Tuesday as the favourites to win.

They are also the favourites to finish top of Group G which also has Borussia Dortmund and Danish club FC Copenhagen.

While the Cityzens are unbeaten this Premier League campaign (W4, D2), they have struggled on their travels in this competition recently, having lost three of their previous six away trips (W2, D1).

One of those away defeats came in a stinging UCL semi-final encounter with Real Madrid last season, in which City conceded three 90th+ minute goals before exiting 6-5 on aggregate.

That result against Madrid means that the Manchester club hold a disappointing record against Spanish sides in this competition, having failed to win 55% of their encounters (W9, D3, L8).

However, they have at least beaten Sevilla in two previous head-to-heads and will fancy their chances of getting a third victory after their disappointing 1-1 draw at Aston Villa last weekend.

Possible Manchester City starting line-up

Ederson Moraes, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Joao Cancelo; Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland.

Injured: Aymeric Laporte

Doubtful: Kalvin Phillips

Suspended: None
