Sporting

Sporting Lisbon will look to make it two wins in two UCL group stage games when they welcome Tottenham to Lisbon on Tuesday.

The hosts have begun their UCL group stage with a bang, with their 3-0 win over last season’s Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt the biggest win in Group D meaning that they come into this second round of games sitting top of the table.

Meanwhile, after beating Frankfurt in Germany last midweek, the hosts returned home over the weekend to defeat Portimonense 4-0, making it three wins on the bounce.

The interesting thing about these wins is that they have come in increasing goals scored. Their first win of the sequence was a 2-0 win over Estoril, followed by the results against Frankfurt and Portimonense over the weekend.

So if patterns are to be followed, one will be expecting a 5-0 win for Rúben Amorim’s side. While that scoreline is partially unlikely, the hosts will still go into this side confident of a positive result given that they have kept clean sheets in each of their last three games.

Possible Sporting starting line-up

Antonio Adan; Luis Neto, Sebastian Coates, Goncalo Inacio; Ricardo Esgaio, Hidemasa Morita, P. Gonçalves Pote, Nuno Santos; Marcus Edwards, Rochinha, Francisco Trincão.

Injured: Daniel Braganca, Jerry St. Juste

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Tottenham

While their hosts were in action over the weekend, Tottenham could not play their fixture over Manchester City due to the pause in footballing activities in the UK following the death of the British Queen last week.

But Antonio Conte’s men wouldn’t mind travelling to Portugal with more rest and momentum on their strides. The Lilly Whites have been enjoying a remarkable run of positive results since the end of the former season and come into this tie unbeaten in their last 13 games in all competitions (W9, D4).

This season alone, only Chelsea and West Ham have prevented them from taking home maximum points in seven games (W5, with the Blues the only side to score over one goal against them.

Having been placed in a fairly simple group, the visitors have made the best possible start to the campaign, beating Marseille 2-0 on game week one to keep themselves in line for a top-of-the-table finish. So a win in Portugal will guarantee that they enter the third round sitting at the top of the group.

For a team that has the second-longest unbeaten run (by games played) of all 32 group-stage teams in the UCL this year, only behind PSG’s 18 games (W14 D4), they will come into this tie confident of getting a positive result.

Possible Tottenham starting line-up

Hugo Lloris; Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Ben Davies; Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Emerson Royal; Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son.

Injured: Lucas Moura

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
