Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich bounced back from their disappointing loss to Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup, beating Union Berlin 5-2 in their last Bundesliga game over the weekend.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men have won all of their opening UCL group games and are heading into this tie in imperious form. They are unbeaten in their last 22 UCL group stage home matches (W21, D1), scoring 69 times in that period.

This season in the UCL, the Bavarians have scored 12 times but are yet to concede, making them one of the favourites for the title.

They will head into this game full of confidence and will fancy their chances of picking up another big win.

Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka is an injury doubt for this tie, while Lucas Hernandez has been sidelined with a knee problem.

Possible Bayern Munich starting line-ups

Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Niklas Sule, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer; Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane; Robert Lewandowski.

Benfica

Benfica fell to a 1-1 draw with Estoril in the Portuguese League to extend their winless run to two games in all competitions.

They lost 4-0 to Bayern in the return leg, despite holding on for the first 70 minutes. They will now be hoping that they can put up a huge performance in the return leg and perhaps take a point from this game to keep their grip of second place in their group.

The visitors will be confident of picking up a good point here as they have lost only once in their last 20 away games, winning four of those games and scoring 40 goals in that period.

They have also kept two clean sheets in the Champions League group stages this year, with only Bayern Munich being the only team that have been able to break them in this group.

Meanwhile, Andre Almeida remains out with a muscle problem for Benfica while Gil Dias and Valentino Lazaro are also sidelined for this clash. Other injury absentees are Haris Seferovic and Rodrigo Pinho.

Possible Benfica starting line-ups

Odisseas Vlachodimos (GK); Jan Vertonghen, Nicolas Otamendi, Lucas Verissimo; Alejandro Grimaldo, Julian Weigl, Pizzi, Joao Mario; Roman Yaremchuk, Darwin Nunez, Rafa Silva.

Prediction

Bayern Munich are arguably the best team in the Champions League and should be able to easily defeat Benfica. However, the visitors proved against Barcelona that they can win any team on their day while Bayern’s loss to Monchengladbach proved that things can also get wrong for them.
