Omonia Nicosia

Cypriot Cup winners Omonia Nicosia will look to get their first win in the Europa League group stages this season when they welcome Manchester United to the Cypriot capital city of Nicosia.

The hosts have started their UEL campaign poorly with two consecutive losses to Sheriff Tiraspol (3-0) and Real Sociedad (2-1) leaving them sitting at the bottom of Group E.

And so they are currently in danger of repeating the fourth-place finish they managed in their maiden UEFA Europa League (UEL) group stage appearance during 2019/20.

However, after securing back-to-back league wins and clean sheets for the first time this season ahead of this clash, albeit either side of the international break, they could argue they’re in the best position yet to improve their fortunes on the continental stage.

Possible Omonia starting line-up

Fabinho; Adam Matthews, Nemanja Miletic, Adam Lang, Nikolas Panaglotou, Jan Lecjaks; Brandon Barker, Moreto Cassama, Charalampos Charalampous, Mix Diskerud; Bruno.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Manchester United

Manchester United suffered arguably their biggest humiliation in a decade over the weekend when they were beaten 6-3 by Manchester rivals Manchester City in the Premier League.

In a largely one-sided game at the Etihad hat-trick from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden gave Pep Guardiola’s side a commanding lead and ended a run of four straight wins in the EPL for Erik ten Hag’s men.

The result was their second loss in their last three games (W1), with the other loss coming in a 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in their first group game of the UEL campaign. But the only win in that period also came in the UEL as they beat Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in Moldova.

So they will step onto Cypriot soil for the first time looking to make it two away wins in a row in the Europa League. They travel to Nicosia as the only current UEL group stage team to have previously won the title (2016/17), and so will fancy their chances of getting the desired result that will keep their chances of finishing top of this group alive.

Possible Manchester United starting line-up

David de Gea; Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelöf, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia; Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho; Anthony; Anthony Martial.

Injured: Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams

Doubtful: Donny van de Beek, Martin Dubravka, Raphael Varane

Suspended: None
