The absence of a PSG star was evident as Brazil held to draw against Ecuador.

Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw against Ecuador in the Group B game against Ecuador in Copa America 2021.

Brazil, who ensured their qualification to the quarter-finals, decided to compete without key players, including Neymar and Thiago Silva.

The host nations opened the scoring through Eder Militao, but Ecuador managed to equalise in the second half, with both teams sharing the spoils in the end. Most importantly, the draw helped Ecuador progress to the last eight of the tournament.

Although Tite’s side were filled with talents all over the pitch, the absence of Neymar was felt as they looked a bit complacent in the final third.

The former Barcelona has been in scintillating form since the Copa America commenced, racking up 2 goals and 2 assists in three games. Furthermore, his overall play was exquisite, and it also helped Brazil top group B with 3 wins.

As it can be understood that Tite wanted the Les Parisiens star to be match ready for the qualifier, the draw against Ecuador showed how crucial he is to Selecao.

The 29-year-year moved his overall goal tally for the national side to 68 after the win against Peru, and he is only seven strikes shy of equalling legendary Pele’s record for the most goals. Pele also spoke in high of Neymar, stating that he would be honoured to see his record getting broken at the hands of the PSG superstar.

Neymar is coming on the back of a disappointing season with Les Parisiens, failing to win either of Champions League and Ligue 1. He is currently focused on helping his national side succeed in the tournament.

Brazil are currently awaiting their opponents for the quarter-finals, which will be played this weekend.
