Ronald Koeman could survive as Barcelona manager

The Blaugrana have decided to stick with the Dutch manager for next season.

Barcelona are likely to stick with Ronald Koeman for next season, with reports stating that president Joan Laporta would make the announcement soon.

Koeman’s future had been up in the air following a dismal season, where he failed to lead Barcelona to La Liga and Champions League glory.

Laporta had earlier commented on the Dutch manager’s stance, saying the Blaugrana are still assessing the situation on whether to bring in a new manager or stick with Koeman.

Now, Laporta looks to have wagered on Koeman for next season, and he also said to have advised the Dutch manager to play an attractive brand of football. In addition, the former Everton gaffer would have his contract renewed for another year.

Laporta is currently doing a huge favour for Koeman, who was said to be unhappy with the lack of new signings. Now, Barca have completed the deals for Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, while Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum are said to be the prospective arrivals.

The Catalan club have been linked with a flurry of managers such as Xavi and Hansi but look to have given up their pursuit.

Koeman, who has a contract running until 2022, is also likely to revert to 4-3-3 formation, which he abandoned during his first season in charge.

Barca are said to be closing on reaching a new deal with captain Lionel Messi, whose contract expires this summer. The Argentine talisman is reportedly happy with Laporta’s new project and would sign a contract extension for two more years.
