Germany: LDWLWD (Goals for 15, Goals against 9)

England

The Three Lions were mediocre in the group stages despite managing to win two of their three matches.

Gareth Southgate’s side have scored just twice in the competition through Raheem Sterling, and key players like Harry Kane are yet to perform.

However, the one positive for the home side is that they have managed to keep a clean sheet in all of their matches so far, and they will need the defensive quality against a team like Germany.

England have won just two of their last six matches against the Germans, and they will be determined to make amends.

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will not be available for selection as they are isolating themselves after Scotland encounter.

Possible England starting line-ups

Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Jack Grealish

Germany

Joachim Low’s side have been quite poor in the group stages, and they have just won one of their three group matches.

They will have to raise their performance levels if they want to win the tournament this summer, and it will be interesting to see if the Germans can step up and get the job done against the Three Lions.

Germany have conceded five goals in their three group games, and they will have to tighten up at the back in order to get through to the quarter-finals.

They are unbeaten in four of their last six matches against England, and Low will be hoping for more of the same next week.

Possible Germany starting line-ups

Manuel Neuer, Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels, Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan, Toni Kroos, Robin Gosens, Kai Havertz, Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry

Probability

England : Draw : Germany :: 38% : 30% : 32%

Prediction

England have been quite poor going forward, and Southgate will have to find a way to get his best attackers like Harry Kane firing again.

Germany are vulnerable at the back, and England have the quality to take advantage of that. It should be a close contest, but Germany’s defence could let them down here.

An England win could be on the cards next week.
